Founded in 1994, FEO is a 501c3 nonprofit organization positively impacting Greater Hartford by providing scholarships to deserving, college-bound students and implementing community based, self-improvement learning opportunities in the areas of health, education, family dynamics, and economics. Greater Hartford is strengthened by programs which result in elevating dialogue regarding issues impacting underserved members of the community:
Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Awareness: Highlight HBCUs and their contribution to society by hosting a HBCU Alumni Panel discussion and a HBCU College Fair averaging over 300 attendees (over 200 students from 61 Greater Hartford area schools).
Mental Health Matters: Host a community forum offering an open dialogue around mental health needs within communities of color facilitated by a local mental health expert. The forum includes interactive wellness activities and information booths with resource materials addressing community education, support and advocacy groups, networks of care and related topics.
Scholarship Program: Provide educational assistance awards totaling more than $140,000 for college-bound students.
Backpack and School Supply Drive: Adopt a Hartford school and provide each student with a new backpack filled with school supplies. Last year, we distributed 456 backpacks and 6,385 school supplies.
Mentor Programs: Mentor young women and families in the areas of academic achievement, financial aid, and career choices.
To foster an increased interest in academics and social issues while promoting higher education and instilling a desire to succeed in and contribute to the greater Hartford community
